midis2jam2 is a remaster of MIDIJam, a 3D MIDI file visualizer. It is written in Kotlin and uses jMonkeyEngine for rendering.

This documentation is for version 1.8.0.

Getting started

midis2jam2 is a 3D MIDI file visualizer. It plays any MIDI file and animates its performance with a virtual band.

A remaster of MIDIJam, it provides a faithful recreation of the original MIDI file visualizer with new instruments, graphics, and settings.

Installation

Download the latest version of midis2jam2 at midis2jam2.xyz. Select the version for your computer's operating system and download the file. Once downloaded, run the file to install the app. The installer guides you through the installation process. Once installed, run the app from your computer's application menu.

Playing your first song

First, open the app. The home screen appears. (Read more about the different screens in the app.)

Next, you need a MIDI file. If you don't have one, you can find one on the internet. There are many websites that offer free MIDI files, such as MIDIWorld and FreeMidi.

Click the button next to the "MIDI file" text field. This opens a file chooser dialog. Select the MIDI and click the "Open" button.

The app loads the MIDI file, and the text field displays the name of the file.

Then, click the Play button.

The performance screen opens and the MIDI file starts playing. 🎉
